Although we are already some solid days into the new year, I still want to share some of my favorite albums from 2018 with you. It was a year full of interesting discoveries, promising debuts, rock-solid continuations as well as pleasant comebacks – and of some last minute changes to the list even while drafting this post (sorry, Alias Caylon & Mike Vennart). It was also the first year of my musical biography in which I somehow lost track of new releases for months, mostly for work reasons. While I do hope that 2018 will remain an exception in this respect, I am very happy with what it brought to my attention. So here is my list (in alphabetical order):

  • Albert Hammond Jr. – Francis Trouble
  • Alice in Chains – Rainier Fog
  • Bass Drum of Death – Just Business
  • Bodega – Endless Scroll
  • Culture Abuse – Bay Dream
  • Dan Mangan – More or Less
  • The Dirty Nil – Master Volume
  • The Frights – Hypochondriac
  • Graveyard – Peace
  • Hodja – The Flood
  • The Joy Formidable – Aaarth
  • Murder by Death – The Other Shore
  • Pablo Matisse – Rise
  • Pagan – Black Wash
  • Parquet Courts – Wild Awake!
  • Sooma – Sooma
